For over 30 years, Melissa Baikie-Rick has been an entertainer bringing her everything to the stage as a vocalist, an actress, a writer, a comedian, and an instrumentalist.
As a firm believer in the importance of music education, she volunteered countless hours during her teens, 20s, and 30s in Colusa County schools and at the Williams Community Center.
Melissa is blessed to be the owner and instructor for Light in the Sky Music with Melissa, focusing on performance arts education in symphonic band instruments, voice, comedy, and live performance skills in general. She is determined to help others overcome any hesitation in the realm of public speaking or performance.
She is also a Classical Conversations Foundations Tutor in Woodland, CA, and formerly the Beginning & Intermediate Woodwinds and Brass teacher at Woodland Christian Elementary School & 88 Keys Academy.
Education & Influences
Melissa's high school band, choir, and theater teacher, Mr. Ron Simmons, was the most influential person in Melissa's performing arts career. She also learned the importance of community through his unparalleled dedication to a life of volunteerism. Melissa had the pleasure of working with Mr. Simmons for most of her life until his sudden passing in September 2022.
During her college days, Melissa studied flute under Dr. Allan Miller and voice with the late Joaquina Calvo-Johnson. In addition to her music studies, Melissa earned a degree in Psychology with an emphasis on Industrial Organization.
Marketing Skills
Melissa independently studied computer science and marketing in support of the non-profit organizations she was a part of. She now offers those skills to a broader audience, focusing on fellow entertainers and small businesses. Résumés, branding, and website construction are just three areas in which Melissa is available to assist you in your adventure.
Family Life
Melissa is very happily married to her exceptionally talented and handsome husband, Aaron Baikie-Rick. They have a remarkable little boy, Logan, and live in rural Colusa County near her beautiful and clever mother, Sharon. Most of their free time is spent in Woodland as the entire family is active in one capacity or another at the Woodland Opera House. Their last theatrical endeavor was in the fall of 2023, when each of the three Baikie-RIcks were cast in the WOH's production of The Addams Family, A New Musical as Grandmama, Lurch, and Ancesetor "Cave-Boy" Addams. You can guess who was who. ;) (Addams Photo Credit: Joshua Wheeler)
